Google Ads in 2025: Caution & Opportunity
Caution is warranted when engaging with Google Ads. It’s a complex platform, and Google’s job is to get revenue from you, the advertiser. Put another way, your interests as an advertiser don’t necessarily come first.
That said, there is an opportunity here. Google’s search traffic (a click coming from an individual entering a commercially-relevant query) can be transformatively powerul. The key is to manage the Google Ads system so that you are capturing the truly great clicks while staying clear of the poorer quality clicks.
Seeking out quality clicks in Google Ads might mean pursuing only Exact Match bids on keywords–even Phrase Match keywords are being expanded now into very loose associations with the actual query upon which you are bidding.
